U11′s triumph over league leaders

The U11′s bounced back from their heavy loss in the Challenge Cup to beat league leaders Garforth Rangers 4-2 at the Crescent. Rangers arrived with a 100% record in the league and must have fancied their chances of taking the points. However Tingley took the game to them and bossed the first half with some great football. Winkley’s persistence paid off when he stabbed the ball past the Rangers keeper and it rolled into the visitor’s net before the chasing defender could clear it. Bilton doubled the lead from the penalty spot after a Rangers hand ball to send TIngley in 2-0 up at the break. Rangers found better form in the second half and looked capable of getting back into the game, until Winkley grabbed his second, firing home a loose ball in the penalty area. The visitors pulled one back with a good strike from a free kick that the excellent Ioannou couldn’t have hoped to save. However he pulled off some terrific saves in the minutes that followed, including a couple of blocks in one-on-one situations, to keep the Garforth strikers at bay and earn himself the man-of-the-match award. TIngley still continued to look for goals however, and it was no surprise when Bilton popped up again to take advantage of a defensive mix-up and fire home his second from close range. There was still time for Rangers to pull one more back with a terrific volleyed shot but as the clock ran down it looked as though there would only be one winner and Tingley held on to register a great win courtesy of their best performance of the season so far.
