Beaten in the Park

Middleton Park FC 5 – TAC FC 4

This Sunday saw the Corinthians travel to Middleton Park. The home team have had mixed results so far this season, so the Corinthians went into the game in a positive mood having won their previous game at home. But with the Corinthians keeper Douglas out with injury, it wasn’t going to be a stroll in the Park for the boys.

As we have seen a number of times previously, the Corinthian seem to struggle to find their feet in the first quarter of the game and after 12” found themselves 2-0 down.

But the second goal was the wake-up call, and the Corinthians turned the game around with Thompson finding the net on 15”, and with a very, very strong finish to the first half, saw them go in 2-3 up with a further goal from Saddington, which was soon followed by a looping ball over the top of midfield by Thornton allowing Huison to net his first goal of this season (2-3).

Middleton seemed shell-shocked to go in 2-3 down at half time especially after such a strong start. But the Corinthians lead was well deserved as they fought hard to get back into the game.

The break came at the wrong time for the Corinthians as it was Middleton who came out strongest and got them selves back into the game 1” after the restart (3-3). But once again the Corinthians fought back and re established their lead on 35” with a scrambled goal and Saddington stretching to make sure the ball crossed this line (3-4).

But the physical aspect of Middleton’s game saw them come out on top with a goal on 44” (4-4) and a late goal on 56” (5-4).

Staff and supporters were of the opinion we had done enough to win this game, but the lack of physical strength allowed Middleton to come out on top.

But once again, the Corinthians showed enough skill and quality to gain more points this season, and apart from weaknesses today caused by players missing, there was enough on show to prove the next victory is not too far away.
