Battyeford u16 v Tingley Athletic u16. 25/03/12. ko 2.00pm. League.
Today saw Tingley travel away to Battyeford looking to make it 15 wins on the bounce which would also keep them in top spot.
But it was Battyeford who stunned Tingley inside 2 minutes when a ball over the top from midfield bounced high off the hard ground into the Tingley area, and although Jamie was out quickly the Battyeford player got to the ball first and headed over the keeper to give them an early lead. 1-0.
Battyeford really had the bit between their teeth and took the game to Tingley who were finding it hard to get into the game early on, and were being denied any time or space, and Battyeford were a yard quicker all over the pitch, this was a shock to the system for Tingley who really had to dig deep to stay in the game.
The referee wasn’t helping as he was not allowing the game to flow and decided to have long chats with the players every time he blew the whistle.
Slowly but surely Tingley started to get their passing game going and Joe D was unlucky after a surging run into the box, but the keeper was out quickly to make the save.
But shortly after Tingley were level when they were awarded a penalty after Brans superb run into the box was halted unfairly when the defender crudely hauled him back.
Beddy stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake with a sweet strike into the bottom corner. 1-1.
Tingley were playing better now but were still guilty of not closing Battyeford down quick enough, especially in the midfield area, and after grafting to get back on level terms, they found themselves behind again after a long throw into the Tingley box caused confusion between Beddy and the keeper Jamie, who collided and the ball bounced off Beddy and into the net to deal Tingley a cruel blow, and put Battyeford back in front. 2-1.
Tingley kept battling and won a free kick 30 yds out, which was swung in by JoeD, but just drifted over the bar.
Bran was very unlucky after a great run into the box and holding off the defender to find space to shoot but it was just wide.
That was the last action of a tough 1st half for Tingley and put them in new territory with them going in behind at half time, but it must also be noted that this was one of the poorest refereeing displays I have seen in a long time, which really hampered both teams.
Half Time. Battyeford 2- Tingley 1.
Tingley started the second half on the offensive and had the ball in the net inside 2 mins but Brans effort was ruled out for off side.
Joe D tried his luck from distance but his shot was just over, Bran made a fantastic run into the box fending off the defender and laying the ball back to Joe D who was tackled just as he was going to shoot.
Joe D had another shot which was well saved by the keeper who deflected it wide for a corner.
Joe D took it and swung in a great corner to the back post and Beddy found the back of the net with a great header to grab his second goal and deservedly get Tingley back on level terms. 2-2.
Tingley found some belief now,and started to close Battyeford down and deny them the time and space they had enjoyed in the first half, and nearly went in front when Bran hit a great strike from the edge of the box, which was well saved by the keeper.
But the pressure did pay off for Tingley and they found themselves in front for the first time in the match when a mix up between the Battyeford keeper and defender allowed Beddy to nip in and lob the ball into the net to bag his Hat trick and put Tingley 2-3 up.
This was well deserved as Tingley had to really dig deep and battle for the space they needed to get their passing game going.
Achim was having a great game in midfield and really had to battle to get the ball through to Cam who just couldn’t get on the end of it.
Tingley won a free kick on the edge of the box, but Beddy shot just over, but then Tingley struck again after another great run from Joe D to get on the end of a superb ball forward by Bano, where Joe D was able to hold off the defender and cross the Ball to the back post for Bran to score to put Tingley 2-4 up.
Tingleys superior fitness and football was clearly evident now as Battyeford had been run into the ground in the second half.
Arron and Josh were looking assured at the back and mopping up any danger, whilst Achim,Beddy and Bano were working their socks off in the centre, and it was Achim who did well to win a free kick 35yds out, and Joe D stepped up to strike a superb effort which the keeper got a hand to but just couldn’t keep it out, to put tingley in the driving seat at 2-5.
Final score Battyeford 2- Tingley 5.
This was one of the sternest tests Tingley have had this season, and yet again they have shown they have got what it takes to win a football match, whether they need to battle or play or both , they showed excellent team spirit, in the second half especially, and showed that if you stick together you can be victorious.
A superb effort today boys to come from behind twice away from home, and to win is a fantastic result, which keeps you 3 points clear at the top, with 15 consecutive wins.
Today’s Man of the Match award goes to BEDDY for another magnificent display , and chipping in with a Hat trick.
