Tingley Athletic Corinthians u13 v Hunslet Greens u13. 4/3/12 ko 10.30am.
Today saw Tingley Corinthians welcome Hunslet Greens to the crescent in a League encounter.
The weather was doing it’s best to spoil things again, with constant rain and a very soggy pitch which was getting worse by the minute, but Tingley started the game brightly with some good passing play, and looked to take the game to Hunslet.
Ewan was looking dangerous again causing Hunslet problems with his pace, making a couple of early breaks down the left.
Both teams were playing the ball around well, but it was Hunslet who had the first chance when a shot came back off the post and was cleared to safety.
But then it was Tingleys turn to attack with Ewan again using his pace to break through on goal but he saw his shot well saved by the keeper, but Reece was quickly onto the loose ball, but the keeper saved brilliantly again.
Tingley were certainly creating chances, and were unlucky not to be in front, but were dealt a blow when a quick break through the middle found Hunslet bearing down on goal and they finished well to take an unlikely lead. 0-1.
But Tingley kept pushing forward and when Ewan broke free in the area he was brought down to earn a penalty, Ewan stepped up to take it but hit the shot over the bar.
And shortly after Tingley were made to pay for the penalty miss, when Hunslet broke again and when Tingley failed to clear the ball, the Hunslet forward toe poked the ball home from 6 yards out to put the visitors 2 up. 0-2.
Tingley were really playing well and were putting Hunslet under pressure but just couldn’t find that final ball, and cruelly on the stroke of half time they were caught short at the back again after Hunslet broke, and finished well to go in at halftime 3-0 up.
Tingley really didn’t deserve to be behind, and started quickly in the second half looking to put things right, and were nearly rewarded within the first few minutes when Adam had a great strike from just outside the box and his shot just shaved the outside of the post.
More pressure led to a couple of early corners which Hunslet managed to clear.
It was all Tingley now and Hunslet were camped in their own half, Tingley were creating chance after chance but just couldn’t find that final touch, but at last the constant pressure paid off after a quick break found Adam in space again, just inside the box and he drove a low shot across the keeper into the far corner of the net to put Tingley back in the game. 1-3.
Shortly after Adam went close again, and a good strike from M.J brought another good save from the keeper, who was really playing well and keeping Hunslet in the game.
M.J really deserved a goal for all his hard work, but it was Adam who struck again, after good work in the middle by M.J found Adam in space again , and he made no mistake to grab his and Tingleys second goal, which was richly deserved. 2-3.
Hunslet had hardly been out of their own half and were being battered from pillar to post in the second half, and Tingley were unlucky not to draw level in the last minute of the game when they threw everyone forward, and broke through on goal and only a last gasp save on the goal line by the keeper kept Tingley out.
That was the final action of a pulsating second half and all the Tingley players had their heads in their hands and couldn’t believe how they had lost this game, but I think the Hunslet Keeper was the reason, and should be congratulated for a superb second half performance, under constant pressure.
Final score Tingley Corinthians 2- Hunslet Greens 3.
The Corinthians played out of their skins today, and should be very proud, at no stage did their heads drop, they never gave in and gave Hunslet a heck of a run around especially in the second half, and certainly didn’t deserve to lose, but these things happen in football, and if you take that attitude into the remaining games you won’t go far wrong.
WELL DONE BOYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Todays outstanding effort goes to WILL for a really hard working performance.
Man of the Match award goes to M.J for another tireless performance.
