Tingley Athletic Corinthians u13 v    Horsforth St Margarets Hurricanes. U13

18/3/12.  ko  10.00am.  League Cup.

Today saw Tingley Corinthians welcome Horsforth Hurricanes to the Crescent in a League Cup encounter which will be a stern test as Horsforth are a league above Tingley.

Tingley however had not read the form book and set about Horsforth straight from the kick off, and Ewan  had a great chance inside the first two minutes, but the keeper came out well to save, but just two minutes after that Ewan was clean through again and this time left the keeper with no chance with a great strike into the top corner of the net to give Tingley an early lead. 1-0.

Tingley were looking strong and playing some good passing football, bossing the midfield and defending well when needed, and created several chances, with Ewan going close again with a shot from distance which was just over the bar.

Tingley had restricted Horsforth to very few chances and were looking the more likely to grab a second goal, but against the run of play, it was Horsforth who grabbed an unlikely equalizer after Tingley failed to clear the ball at the back and a Horsforth shot found the back of the net. 1-1.

Tingley were still looking dangerous every time they attacked but just couldn’t get the breakthrough before half time.

H/T   1-1.

Tingley  started the second half  as they did the first and really set about the visitors and Charlie had a great shot well saved by the keeper inside 2 minutes, but just like the first half  Tingley were in front again 2 minutes later when Carl made a great run into the box and found space to put Tingley into a well deserved lead. 2-1.

But as in the first half,  against the run of play Horforth  managed to grab  another unlikely equalizer after a quick break into the box they managed to bundle the ball into the net. 2-2.

Tingley were really putting Horsforth under pressure now, Carl was unlucky not to grab a second goal when his shot was blocked by the keepers outsretched leg,and minutes later Carl could have grabbed another after a great ball was played through to him from M.J, but again the keeper saved Horforth.

Spud was making some great runs down the left and did well to rob the defender and force a corner.

This was a superbly entertaining game and  Tingley were attacking at every opportunity and were outplaying the higher league opponents for long periods, but just couldn’t  find that vital 3rd  goal before the final whistle, which meant the drama continued into extra time,10 minutes each way, as this was a cup game .

1st period. Extra time.

Tingley were not downhearted and set about Horsforth again in determined fashion and almost grabbed a third when Ewan played in M.J but the keeper was alert again and saved well, and then another shot ran agonisingley past the far post, with the keeper beaten.Tingley dominated this first period of extra time, but just couldn’t find that illusive third goal. Horsforth were then reduced to ten men when their number 9 was sent off after a very high tackle on Adam, who was able to continue after treatment.

2nd period .Extra time.

Tingley continued to dominate the game, and  finally the constant pressure paid off, when a free kick launched into the Horforth penalty area found Jack in space who made no mistake and fired Tingley back in front, to spark mass celebrations on the pitch. 3-2.

Tingley kept up the pressure and Spud was unlucky not to score when he beat the keeper but his shot was just wide of the mark.

Tingley did have the ball in the net again but it was disallowed for a handball in the build up.

But the final whistle sounded to bring a superbly entertaining game to a close with the Corinthians running out 3-2 winners.

Full time  3-2.

This was one of the best performances from the Corinthians so far this season and is the second time this season they have beaten higher league opponents, Horsforth must have wondered what hit them today as they were outplayed for long periods, and every  Corinthians player should be very proud of their solid performance today as they all worked their socks off for each other and richly deserved that victory.

Today’s Man of the Match award goes to ADAM for a superb captains performance.

The Outstanding effort award goes to SPUD for a tireless performance.

WELL DONE !!!!!!.
