Tingley Athletic Corinthians U13’s  v   Woodkirk Valley Wolves U13’s.

4/12/11.     ko 10.00am

The Corinthians welcomed the unbeaten league leaders to the Crescent today to try and restore bragging rights after a narrow defeat when they played them at  their ground earlier in the season.

Before the match started a minutes applause was given to pay our respects to the late Gary Speed, who was an inspiration to all, and will be sadly missed .

It was a very cold and wet day but the Corinthians started brightly, and were passing the well early on, and created the first chance of the game after just 5 mins, when Olly did well to win the ball and send Ewan on a surging run into the Woodkirk box, but he fired his shot just wide of the mark.

Tingley were really playing well and not giving Woodkirk any time on the ball, but were caught out against the run of play, when Woodkirk were awarded a free kick for hand ball just outside the Tingley penalty area, and saw the free kick struck well into the bottom corner of the net to give Woodkirk the lead. 0-1.

But Tingley are made of stern stuff these days, and hit back straight from the kick off to level the scores after a great run and shot from Adam found the net. 1-1.

It  was turning out to be a very entertaining game, despite the good old British weather, and Tingley were really getting stuck into the league leaders, and nearly went in front when Ewan hit another great shot from the edge of the box, which just drifted wide.

Tingley were awarded a free kick just outside Woodkirks penalty area, and MJ struck a sweet shot which the keeper just managed to hold onto.

But on 25 mins Tingley deservedly took the lead, after a quick throw in from Spud, was played through for  Ewan to make a fantastic run from the halfway line into the penalty area an take the ball round the advancing keeper and calmly slotted  the ball home to put Tingley in front. 2-1.

But just 2 mins later all Tingleys hard work was undone again when a Woodkirk shot rattled the Tingley crossbar, and fell invitingly for a Woodkirk player to toe poke the ball over the line for an unlikely equalizer. 2-2.

Tingley almost went in front again after the keeper saved again from Ewans strike, but just before halftime Tingley did get back in front, after a good move through midfield, found Jack free in the Woodkirk penalty area, and he made no mistake and shot low into the bottom corner to give Tingley the lead. 3-2.

That was the last action of a pulsating first half and saw Tingley deservedly go in 3-2 up.

H/T 3-2.

Tingley started the second half where they left off, and were further in front after 5 mins when Jack broke clear in midfield and made a strong run into the box and rounded the keeper to score his second of the game, and Tingleys fourth. 4-2.

This really rocked the league leaders who were really under the cosh now, and Tingley almost added a fifth when MJ made a superb break and ran nearly the full length of the pitch beating 3 men in the process, but was just crowded out on the edge of the Woodkirk box.

Tingley were really up for this encounter and continued to take the game to Woodkirk, and were restricting them to a few long range shots, which were well wide.

But  Woodkirk  are a good team, they are not top of the league by chance, and slowly but surely they started to push Tingley back in the last 20 mins, and Tingley really had to be on their mettle, and they defended heroically, when every Woodkirk attack was turned away, but with 2 mins left the pressure did pay off, when after a quick break into the box found a Woodkirk player in space to score from close range, to give them hope. 4-3.

There were some tired legs out there now, but Tingley were not going to be outdone today, and saw out the last couple of minutes, to send a shockwave through the league leaders who were unbeaten before todays game, and as the final whistle blew to send the Corinthians into raptures, the Woodkirk side looked absolutely stunned.

So it just goes to show,  Never underestimate the Corinthians!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

This was one of the best team performances I have had the privilege of watching, and the Boys should be very proud of this achievement, and proves that all their hard work is starting to pay off.

Absolutely superb effort from everybody today boys you really deserved that one!!!!!!

WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A special mention for todays Man of the Match award which goes to our stand in keeper Matty B  for a sterling effort in goal.

And todays Outstanding Effort Award  is shared by two players, MJ and Ewan, brilliant performance boys.
