Kirkstall crusaders U13 v Tingley Athletic Corinthians U13.            6/11/11    ko 10.30 am.

It was a good start to the game from both teams, who were trying to get the ball down and play passing football which was not easy in the muddy conditions.  Corinthians were looking to take the game to Kirkstall but had a set back after 8 minutes when a free kick was taken by the keeper over the top for the Kirkstall striker to run on to and finish well into the corner for the first goal.

Corinthians had a great chance to equalise straight from the kick off when the keeper fumbled the ball out to Andrew but his shot went just wide.  Ewan was next to test the keeper with a great shot which was saved and from the follow up Andrew was denied by a great defensive tackle as the empty goal beckoned.  Corinthians were playing well and taking the game to Kirkstall but after a quick break from the home side Jack made a good save from a header.

Corinthians were putting pressure on Kirkstall but were dealt a cruel blow against the run of play when after a scramble in the area the ball fell kindly for the Kirkstall striker to poach a second goal.

Corinthians broke quickly and after a long throw from Adam, Ewan ran through into the area and hit a low drive into the net for a well deserve goal to put Corinthians back in the game.  Corinthians almost got a second shortly after when a great ball over the top from MJ found Ewan in space, but his shot was just wide.  Jack was called upon again to make a great save to his left after a quick Kirkstall break.

After another home team break forced a corner, Corinthians were caught out when the corner swung in to the back post, was not cleared and the forward was able to head in at the back post to put Kirkstall 3-1 up.

Corinthians were back in the game shortly after when a goal kick by Jack was headed backwards by the Kirkstall midfielder which allowed Ewan to run through and finish well into the  corner for his second goal of the game which, on the balance of play, Corinthians richly deserved.

Corinthians almost levelled shortly after when a free kick cleared the defence for Ewan to run clean through on goal, but just couldn’t get the ball under control before it ran out of play.  It had been an excellent first half with end to end football, but just before half time, a mistake at the back gifted a fourth goal to Kirkstall which was very hard on Corinthians, given how well they were playing, and were unlucky to go in 4-2 at half time.

Corinthians started the second half brightly, and after just five minutes MJ broke free in the box and looked certain to score but the defender got back well to make a last ditch clearance.  Kirkstall had the benefit of playing downhill and were putting Corinthians under pressure but they were defending well and looking to hit Kirkstall on the brake.

After a good passing move from Corinthians, Matty B headed the ball forward for Reece to shoot just wide but Corinthians were caught again on the break when the ball was swung into the box and Kirkstall  scored with a header into the far corner which again was hard on Corinthians who were just not getting the run of the ball.  Corinthians were working especially hard to back into the game but were not having any luck when a quick ball over the top was finished well to put Kirkstall 6-2 up.

The heavy pitch, and playing up hill in the second half was making it hard for Corinthians who continued to chase the game and work hard for each other and kept their heads up.  Just before the full time whistle blew, a Kirkstall free kick on the edge of the box was swung into the area and headed home for the seventh goal for Kirkstall, who ran out 7-2 winners.

This was another fine performance by the Corinthians, and the scoreline certainly does not reflect the game, and the boys should be proud of their hard work today, and must be due for lady luck to smile down on them soon, but at the moment she is nowhere to be seen.

Well done boys!!!!!!!!!!

A special mention for todays Man of the Match award which goes to EWAN for another fine performance, and 2 goals.

And todays outstanding effort goes to Jack for a superb game in goal.

Well done boys !!!!!!!!!!!
